Delia Owens
Born: April 4, 1949
Delia Owens is an American author, zoologist, and conservationist. With her then-husband Mark Owens, she conducted wildlife research in Botswana's Kalahari Desert and later in Zambia, co-authoring the memoirs "Cry of the Kalahari" (1984), "The Eye of the Elephant" (1992), and "Secrets of the Savanna" (2006). Her debut novel, "Where the Crawdads Sing" (2018), became a major international bestseller and was adapted into a 2022 film. She holds a PhD in animal behavior from UC Davis and co-founded the Owens Foundation for Wildlife Conservation.
