American true crime writer and creator of the blog True Crime Diary, best known for coining the term "Golden State Killer" and for her posthumously published book "I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer" (2018), later adapted into an HBO documentary series. She was married to comedian Patton Oswalt.
