Description

Tamiki Hara was in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, at 8:15 a.m., the moment the bomb exploded, forcing a new way of looking at the world. As he describes in his powerful work Summer Flowers (winner of the Takitaro Minakami Prize), at that moment, the author was in a house built by his father, far enough from the site of the explosion to allow him to survive. Using three distinct narrative moments, Hara narrates the before, during, and after of the tragedy.
