Description
This edition brings together Hesiod’s two major surviving works, Theogony and Works and Days, in a Portuguese translation by Sueli Maria de Regino. In Theogony, Hesiod recounts the origins of the cosmos and the genealogy of the Greek gods, from the primordial deities through the violent succession of divine rulers to the establishment of Zeus’s order. Works and Days turns toward the human world, combining moral instruction, agricultural advice, and reflections on justice, labor, and the proper conduct of life. It also preserves some of Greek mythology’s most influential narratives, including Prometheus, Pandora, and the Five Ages of Man. Together, the two poems form one of the essential foundations of ancient Greek literature and mythology, offering both a genealogy of the divine world and a vision of how mortals should live within it.
