Sleeper Picks

I think all of these are great media projects that are slept on, being they don't get the attention they deserve. There is no particular order but I would highly recommend any of these.

12A-

Snowpiercer

Bong Joon Ho · 2013

Action Science Fiction +1

I'm not sure how this movie stacks up to it's other mediums, but I think this movie was a lot of fun.

11B

Blue Beetle

Ángel Manuel Soto · 2023

Action Science Fiction +1

In a modern age of hero movie overload, this one was so good that James Gun is making sure to keep it in his DCU. Of the 5 people who saw this movie, we all loved it.

10A

The Nice Guys

Shane Black · 2016

Comedy Crime +1

Should be on the Mount Rushmore of comedy movies.

9A-

Assassin's Creed III

Ubisoft Montreal · 2012

Adventure Action +6

of all the AC games this is still my favorite to this day. It had one of the best stories, most solid gameplay, and at the time had the most fresh mechanics in the franchise.

8A-

Monster House

Gil Kenan · 2006

Animation Comedy +3

This is one of those movies that was in my mom's minivan that got repeated over and over during drives. I thought when I was younger that I was burnt out on it, but still to this day I can watch this movie and laugh a lot.

7A-

Brother Bear

Aaron Blaise · 2003

Adventure Animation +1

As a middle child of 3 other brothers, this movie really hit as a kid and still holds up for me to this day.

6A+

Suzume

Makoto Shinkai · 2022

Animation Drama +2

I think between this movie living in the shadow of Your Name and coming out during the pandemic set this movie back. I personally liked it more than its predecessor and think it deserves a watch from everyone.

5B+

The Platform

Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia · 2019

Drama Science Fiction +1

Such an incredibly interesting plot and premise. A massive vertical prison where inmates are fed via a single food-laden platform that starts at the top and slowly descends to the bottom floors. What a creative and brutal allegory for capitalism.

Dororo

Osamu Tezuka · 2019

Animation Action & Adventure

With all of the titans of anime that have been out the past decade, this one flew under so many radars. It's pretty different than the mainstream content we get. Just one word from this protagonist showed so much character growth and story telling, dude just saying "mama" about made me cry.

Chronicle

Josh Trank · 2012

Science Fiction Drama +1

I feel like its hard to say its a sleeper because everyone I've talked to about this movie loved it, but the amount of people who I can actually talk about this movie to is very small.

2A-

Treasure Planet

Ron Clements · 2002

Science Fiction Adventure +3

I miss when Disney was like this, not in a nostalgia kind of way, I genuinely think this era of creativity for the company was when it was at it's best.
