It took me years to find out that this movie was spoofing a genre that really doesn't exist anymore. The pot boiler thriller was al the rage in the 1970s and early 80s. Each one was filled with actors a decade or two past their prime and stunt casting athletes or other people not normally in films.

Airplane did an amazing job at making fun of all of that.
