So much wasted potential
This is one of those movies I actually sought out in the spring of 2020. I was working mostly from home and wanted to work through all the fascinating films that I missed in theaters.
I struggled to find this on streaming but when I did man was I let down. This movie wasn't even fascinating enough to be truly bad. Almost all of the characters, each one a mid-century clique (flower child, G-men, cult leader, soul singer, Vietnam vet, etc) are begging for you to ask "Wait...whats your secret!" and expect you to be just on the edge of your seat focused on whats going to happen next.
Instead you get the familiar beats and uninterested acting from very talented people.
This movie was so forgettable that I legit forgot that John Hamm AND Shea Whigham were both in this. Now I am sure this is someone's favorite movie but for me this a film I never plan to revisit.
