Most good shows use their first season to discover what works and what doesn’t. The second season more experimentation but more focused. The writers and actors remix what works, fix what can be fixed and remove what is failing. They put actors together who have great chemistry, remove redundant plots or actors. The budget has increased and these episodes worked so let’s do that again but bigger.

Season 2 of Man Seeking Woman doesn’t really do that. It seems to have started off knowing exactly what they are and told a story of a man struggling after a breakup and by the end of a crazy season he has made progress. He has gotten over Maggie and is ready for something new.

Season two shifts the focus. This time Josh has a crush on a new coworker and the surreal comedy doesn’t stop.

Rosa Salazar plays Rosa the new office temp who replaced Josh when he became office manager. She is cute and goofy and seems perfect for Josh. He develops an instant crush on her, and you feel the same excitement that any young man might feel. But in typical Man Seeking Woman fashion Rosa doesn’t just have a boyfriend, her boyfriend is Jesus Christ, the son of God. Most of the season is about Josh trying to date Rosa and how that impacts his friendships. Especially his friendship with Mike who ends up dating Rosa. This thread is about as strong as a through line as the post-breakup was in the first season and does the same job of adding a framework to add to the show.

The series regulars return Eric Andre and Britt Lower are back and better than ever. Robin Duke and Mark McKinney, both veterans of improv and comedy scene, continue to play Josh and Liz’s mother and stepfather. Rosa Salazar is great as well feeling as grounded realistic as anyone in the show. She is a great addition.

A highlight of the season is “Tinsel” a Liz focused episode and the only holiday episode of the entire show. I don’t want to give it away, but it is worth your time.

Man Seeking Woman continues its bizarre and madcap brilliance for another season and is a hidden gem of a TV show on FX.
