Fantastic book all around. I can't really describe it without sounding like some annoying Booktoker or boring NYT critic, but it explores so many different threads and themes beautifully and often subtly. Moments of cosmic and occult terror interspersed with what's mostly a coming of age story, but not in a lame American author kind of way. Read this now. A dang classic.

A book that allows its characters to be complex and human!
And I'll get a little NYT I suppose: the way the author explored being queer under the Argentinian military dictatorship and through the AIDS crisis of the 80s and early 90s was fascinating and terrifying.
