I hate the idea of Day‑one DLC. Day‑one DLC is merely locked‑away content that players must pay more for. That is a gross idea, borderline unethical.

As DLC, however, this is a fun one. We are given Javik, the last surviving Prothean. He is basically the Shepard of his cycle, a hero to his people in their darkest hour. Javik is a little blunt and has funny anecdotes, given his experience of meeting most of the species before they were this evolved. I do enjoy his interactions with Liara, as she was a Prothean expert when we first met her. Watching her become disabused of her assumptions about Protheans in real time is fun. Her heroes do not live up to her expectations.

The mission to recover Javik has us fighting Cerberus and returning to Eden Prime, the place where this franchise first started. The mission to get him is available from the moment you leave Mars.

Aside from Javik, his beam weapon, and some alternate outfits, there is not much to the DLC. The best part is watching the characters in the universe meet and interact with a member of a species that everyone is curious about and that a few races even worship.
