Are you just Spider-Man biased or is this actually a good movie? I'm both
Putting this review together has been hard. Which seems like a weird thing to say considering I am giving it an A+, but I really wanted to full understand this movie and not just stand on recency bias. So here is why this is possibly the best Spider-Man movie of all time, standing alongside Raimi's Spider-Man 2. I will do my best to refrain from any major spoilers.
First I want to talk about the movie as just a movie before getting into the plot and writing, etc. The movie is a very enjoyable watch. The action is well done and seeing a lot of the stunts were performed practically was really really cool and translated well on screen. The characters all had very strong chemistry with each other that made for strong emotional notes as well as witty and quipy comedic moments that stick. The soundtrack is also one of my favorites for a Superhero film (next to Superman 2025 and Across the Spiderverse).
Now time to get into the meat and potatoes of the film. This was the part where I had a hard time deciding on how I wanted to rate this film. I wanted to read some negative reviews of the film first and some things people didn't like and see if there was anything I missed that my biased eyes blinded me to. Well after seeing reviews and what some peoples complaints were about, I disagree and still love this film.
This movie is a love letter to those who feel alone, depressed and weary. Those who feel like they HAVE to handle life alone when they shouldn't. This movie covers heavy emotional notes that come from the consequences of self-imposed isolation. Peter goes through traumatic events of the last film, and instead of confronting those events, he decides the best course of action is to walk away and decide for others what is best. The consequences of these actions are present throughout the whole film and the resolution of the film is finally acknowledging unhealthy behaviors and deciding that being alone only makes us weaker.
This movie delivers a message that I found beautiful in lovely packaging that is a fun superhero movie. After watching this movie 3 times already, I have loved it more and more with each watch and I have so much respect for the cast and crew. I eagerly look forward to another Tom Holland and Daniel Deston Cretton.

Two things. 1) "This movie is a love letter to those who feel alone, depressed and weary." YES. 2) "...not just stand on recency bias." Being aware of biases that you have and adjusting for them is the hallmark of a critical thinker. We all have biases pretending we don't is...weird.
YES! So glad we agree on these things. I adore this movie. I know I probably love it more than others but I think it is a terrific film with a lot of heart
This will just be a movie where we have to agree to disagree on lol
I think its the closest anyone has come to being my favorite live action Spiderman. Andrew has been so high for me since I was a kid, so I'm so pleasantly surprised. (I'm still undecided so I GUESS I have to see it again tomorrow)
