It has been a while since I last watched The Lighthouse, at least 4 years. Seeing this film in the theater is one of the most important movie-watching experiences in my life. I hadn't seen anything like it before, something so strange and beautiful.

I had been nervous to rewatch this, having seen much more "arthouse" cinema since. Perhaps it would come off as shallow, derivative, or god forbid, a word that gets thrown at this movie constantly, pretentious... whatever the hell that means.

Right when the film began I was relieved. It is still as good as I remembered. The performances and script are still eerie and so much fun. The music and editing are still haunting. The visual aesthetic and cinematographic compositions remain among the best I've ever seen. The only thing that's changed is maybe I have a better grasp of the things that Eggers is pulling from, but it endures as something totally singular. It endures as one of my favorite, favorite movies, and I am so very glad.

Hoping Nosferatu is awesome, I think it is in good hands. Would like to see Eggers tackle another original script after that though.
