I was expecting some creepy scenes, of course. What I wasn't expecting was for More Things That Happened to feel like its own standalone film, independent of Inland Empire.

Granted, it's not as if it makes a lot of sense. But the fragmentary dreamlike nature of the original movie gives this 75 minutes of cut material a certain separateness. It cannot exist without the parent movie, but More Things That Happened is a pure distillation of its themes (namely, women in trouble) and atmospheres without needing to do the plot work that Inland had already done. This results in maybe the scariest, most abstract thing that Lynch ever made. It is pure nightmare logic, but the scenes all have such intense thematic resonance that it comes together almost more coherently than Inland Empire. And most of this is accompanied by Laura Dern's GOATed performance.

I feel like I've discovered an 11th Lynch film here, which is awesome. I highly recommend.
