Innerspace
“Innerspace is a sci-fi comedy about a devil-may-care test pilot, Tuck Pendleton (Dennis Quaid) ,shrunken smaller than a blood cell. After an attack on the lab where he was shrunk a scientist injected into the butt of Jack Putter (Martain Short). What happens next is classic 1980s hi-jinks with a sprinkling of pretty good practical effects. This of this as a lessor version of Ghostbusters.”

Kevin Can F**K Himself - Season 2
“What a waste of such an interesting premise and setting. A second season with no payoff, no meaningful progression, ending in a cadre of unredeemed, unlikeable characters. What could have been a fun twist on a format ended up being as meandering and meaningless as the thing it was aiming to subvert.”

Interstellar
“An irritating, and at-times preachy lump of a film that's nowhere near as smart as it would like to be. Ah, yes. If only someone told those physicists who simulated the black hole (did you know, did you?)—Across the event horizon, not to worry. Toss the silver! Worked for Aubrey and Maturin, worked for Napoleon. Incomplete, of course, without a hackneyed bootleg Kubrick sequence. What a bore.”

Iron Lung
“I checked my phone after watching this and my Oura ring asked me if I napped for an hour and 15 minutes. I did really enjoy the blood stuff and the soundtrack.”

Iron Lung
“Despite inventive camerawork, fantastic visuals, and a noteworthy score, there's only so much time one can be expected to sit listening to breathless, disembodied voices bark gruff, grave nonsense at each other and stammer, before something else ought to happen. And yet... Agonizingly slow, and with relatively little payoff. Forty minutes or so of this probably should have been cut.”

The Animatrix
“Self indulgent, gratuitous and a little more than self important this is a strange artifact best forgotten. So much nightmare fuel the violence just gets boring. It is animated well though.”

The Secret History
“Performative read. Fanfic about Donna's own dream life.....to be surrounded by such intellectual boy toys, oh dear.”

DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story - Miniseries
“Evan Peters, cannibalism, I give it an A”

Marcy Playground
Marcy Playground
“most iconic self-titled of the 90s, I will die on this hill”

Violet Evergarden - Season 1
“so annoying, it's basically an anime about a pick-me autist who happens to be attractive and good at a few things (vaguely?) and that's about it.”

10 Things I Hate About You
“profound”

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
“More brutal. Better weapons More enemies.More over the top fun. One weapon, the Cerebral Bore, is a small projectile that will follow an enemy around corners and off cliffs, attach to the victim's skull, suction their brains out and explode.”

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
“Brutal. Fun. Over the top. This is a classic late 90s FPS that seemed to come out of nowhere. Lots of fun.”

WinBack: Covert Operations
“A stiff and bloated clone of Metal Gear: Solid but manages to hold a place in my heart. I would rent this game frequently from Blockbuster and play it all weekend. I wish It could be remastered and released in a modern console.”

Backrooms
“What a strange collage of missed opportunities. Every last bit of the charm of the webseries is conspicuously absent, here. Thoughtful ambience replaced with an abusive degree of corny narration. The technical intrigue of its setting reworked into a never-ending therapy session. A bureaucratic entity weighing profit against research? Gone. Perhaps the monster was the viewer all along... Yawn.”

Review of Primal - Season 1
It seems difficult to explain why Primal's Season 1 is good without first supplying something of a state-of-the-union. Good, in what sense? And of course, we’d be remiss not to take a perfectly good c...

Review of Resident Evil - Season 1
Ah. Another day, another corporate broomstick shoved up the backside of source material that somebody, somewhere, at some point, used to love. Another lovely, sunny day in the modernist beehive, prais...

The Return
“Carried by the brilliant performances of its two leads, director Uberto Pasolini's view of Odysseus's return to Ithaca strips the metaphysical substance from the text, opting instead to present an historical drama. It lags a bit, at times; evidently it's difficult to excise the story's mythical imperatives without also gutting Odysseus's motives. But on the whole, the film is certainly compelling.”

Nolan's Odyssey: An Autopsy
The Odyssey
A film made by those who don't particularly like the Odyssey, for those who have never read the Odyssey. And at that, it's still not even fun to hate, like so many other products of cinematic activism...

Dud
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
When you watch a movie, you're often under the influence of the sunk cost fallacy. Because you've already invested your time and money, you're naturally more inclined to convince yourself that you enj...

The Bronze Lie: Shattering the Myth of Spartan Warrior Supremacy
“If this was a better written book I think I might have enjoyed it more. This is not...bad...just written for people with more than a casual understanding of ancient warfare and the Mediterranean world.”

The Bourne Identity
“Inside Matt Damon there are two wolves, both are really confused”

Review of The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan is gonna Christopher Nolan or, more succinctly, a leopard doesn’t change its spots. I like Christopher Nolan as a filmmaker. We seem to share the same tastes and interests, given his...

The Odyssey
“It's well-paced and captures the plot beats as well as you can expect from an adaption. My only complaint is that I wish Nolan didn't have to make all of his movies so washed out and gray. A little bit of contrast never hurt anybody. Some may take issue with his modernization of the story's themes, but I don't mind as much. Adapting legends to the times kind of comes with the territory.”
